30 November 2010

Thirteen people, including two children, survived a plane crashed in Cagayan River in Barangay San Vicente in Iguig town, Cagayan around 1:30 p.m.

The Beechcraft Queen Air 65 plane with registry RPC-1111 was piloted by Captain Agustin Jose and Benedict Dela Cruzon and on its way from Basco, Batanes to Tuguegarao in Cagayan with full 13 passengers, when its two engine stopped in midair at 3,000 feet in the air causing it to crashed 8.5 kilometers away from the Tuguegarao airport.

The passengers were named as Rustom Hontonia, Jack Castaño, Jovani Pahodpod, David Batan, Benedict John Acebes, Mae Jane Agcaoili, Harold Agito, Kate Vallentes, Mika Horkajo, Hana Horkajo and Yale Mark Elep.

Three other passengers Harold Agito, Benedict John Acebes and Jovani Pahodpod were Boy Scout members on their way to a camping site in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur for a scouting activity.

“The pilot had managed to make a forced landing on a corn field before it hit a river bed to soften the impact of the crash and prevent any explosion,” said Senior Superintendent Mao Aplasca, Cagayan police director.

"Sa tubig kami bumagsak. Lumabas kami at sa pakpak nakatayo (We landed on the water. We went out of the aircraft and stood on its wings)", says one of its passenger Jack Castaño.

Castaño said the rescue boats came 20 minutes after the crash.

  3. ikaw kaya CAAP ang lumipad niyan at tingnan kung may buhay pa kung ikaw Piloto during emergency landing. Mga CAAP senior officers ngayon ni hindi marunong magpalipad ng Cessna 150.

  5. Kudos to the Crew however an extraordinary pilot is one who never has to resort to his extraordinary skills to get out of an extraordinary situation:

One can only guess until the fact finding committee comes to a conclusion. Dual engine failure sounds like fuel issues - now was it starvation from mismanagement or from equipment failure like the famous Hudson ditch?

  7. authorities are now looking at the sabotage angle since the pilot received a tx message warning them not to fly in the area possibly from an old aircraft operator in the area.tx message was saved and reported to PNP on the morning of the same day of the accident.2 engine failure at the same time is rare,BUT NOT WHEN WATER IS PRESENT ON YOUR CENTER TANKS WHICH WAS THE LAST FEEDING AFTER CONSUMING OUTER TANKS,NO INDICATIONS OF LACK ON FUEL ESP.WITH 164 GAL TOTAL AFTER REFUELLING ON BOARD...

  8. Dec 5 Anonymous - Bull. Anyone that has a clue can clearly see that these guys ran out of fuel. Even in the remote possibility of EXCESSIVE water in the center tanks causing a DUAL engine failure, it is still the responsibility of the pilots to ensure a thorough preflight, which includes sump drain checks from each tanks, is conducted in accordance with Beechcraft Checklists.

Dec 3 Anonymous - The Hudson accident was caused by a flock of birds and NOT fuel related.

Although it is commendable they all came out unharmed, the fact remains that these pilots will walk away as heroes in an accident they caused in the first place.
